PowerShell Script for Changing MailNickName Attribute

I'm trying to change the 'mailNickName' Attribute (aka 'Alias' attribute in Exchange) for a specific user.  

When attempting this solution through ExchangeOnline,  I'm told that it must be done on the object itself through AD.   When working with the Object in AD,  using the Attribute Editor, the mailNickName attribute isn't there.   

Is there a way,  using PowerShell on the domain controller,  to change this attribute even though it isn't listed in the Active Directory Users and Computers module?
