PowerShell 2 Clipbaord

I need to copy a string from a txt file to the clipboard 

"helloworld" | clip

dose not work and is not recognized in PS 2. Is there a way to do this without updating to PS 5 on new laptops? I would update to PowerShell 5 but I don't want to have to update existing laptops as well. too many and too much time. We don't use GPO so scripting is the only way around.
